Divorce Barbie!

Post written by retired family law solicitor advocate.

I originally wrote this post on 4 October 2007.

Have things changed since then?

A review of the case law would suggest not.

Getting married is a risky business.

Both to your wallet...

and your heart.

How to protect yourself?

How can you protect yourself from potential gold diggers?

I will do a post on how to spot gold diggers...

But the honest answer is...

you can't.

You can field off 80% of them.

But the old Pareto Principle holds good in this as in everything else.

The determined 20% will get through.

How to reduce the risks

Letting people into your inner circle is a risk.

They can hurt you.

Jordan Peterson goes so far as to say marrying the wrong person can ruin your life.

For good.

It's a very serious business with long lasting consequences.

Three women a week are killed by their ex-partners in the United Kingdom so the risks are huge.

How to spot a wrong 'un?

Here is the number one best clue which most people, including myself, have ignored.

  1. Do they seem too good to be true?

Here is the number two best clue, again I have ignored this to my detriment in the past:

2. Does something not quite add up?

And here is the number three best clue, which everyone ignores:

3. Do they lie about little things?

So now you know how to protect yourself.

It still does not stop some people going ahead with a foolhardy relationship, but it will garner great lessons if you survive the ordeal.

Imagine how fantastic your life could be if you filtered everyone in it with the above three tests.

Here's my original post.

I hope you enjoy it!!!!

My friends keep texting me this joke:

A father was on his way home and decided to buy his daughter a Barbie. He stopped at a toy store and noticed that there was a Shopping Barbie, a Beach Barbie and a Disco Barbie which were all £19.95. There was also a Divorce Barbie for £265.00.

"Why is the Divorce Barbie so much more expensive?" asks the dad.

The salesman answered " That's because Divorce Barbie comes with Ken's car, Ken's house, Ken's boat, Ken's computer, Ken's furniture and one of Ken's mates!!!!!!

It is a joke but.......humour based on truth. Recent, high profile, big money, divorce cases have spot lighted a legal system which appears unfair to wealthy individuals!!!

I have said this many, many times. If you are richer than your partner, don't get married, or at least don't live in this country!!! And you must, must, must get a pre nup!!!!
